Default MoS2 grease for clutch components?

The procedure everywhere I looked calls for MoS2 grease on the guide tube, release bearing, needle bearings, etc. Is this some type of special grease or will any high quality grease do the job. I have Mobil 1 synthetic left over from wheel bearing, and CV joint jobs that I would like to use. I can’t see it making much of a difference but just wanted to double check since the procedure calls specifically for MoS2.

Thanks

I've used the Mobil 1 on mine also; I doubt if the MoS2 makes much of a difference. MI is pretty good stuff, sure seems to stay put at high temps also. They make a thicker version for ambient temp applications that works even better for splines, tie rods, and guide tube. Did you really use M1 on your CV's? I always thought CV's required a very specialized blend to keep from being thrown off the rotating parts.

Thanks 2Tight, didn't think it would make much of a difference. M1 worked great on the CV joints, no issues thus far.

MoS2 is molybendium disulphide, a.k.a. the black CV grease.

I used mobil 1 synthetic on my CV's as well. It's very sticky, and very slippery. How much better can it get?
Worked wonderfully, also used it on my wheel bearings, and for chassis lube.
It will be just fine on the guide tube.

That's great news I would much rather handle M1 than the gorilla snot that is speced for most CV's.

The Moly in the grease acts as a solid dispersed lubricant when the grease base is displaced - it's a better choice for applications like this where there's no real movement to refresh the grease film. However, I doubt you'll notice any difference.
