However, it is not common at all for the hose you describe to leak. FWIW none of the clutch master & slave maintenance procedures in any of the FSM, Haynes, Clark's, referred to by hundreds of enthusiasts over the years even remotely suggest replacing that hose at all. Yours (and Tom's) may have leaked, but that doesn't make it a standard occurence.
By that logic all "replaceable" hoses on the car would become maintenance items. Might as well buy a new Ford Focus then.

For me, the blue hose was a "while you are in there" replacement. It would have pissed me off to no end to replace the master/slave, bleed everything and then have to do it all over becasue of that stupid hose.

I replaced that hose that hosrom is talking about too. The rubber outer sleeve was falling apart, so I figured it would never be easier to replace than when I had everything else out. It wasn't leaking, but it looked like crap.
I replaced the blue hose too. Why not, when everything else is new.

Hose here as well. They do fail, they do leak, and they do need to be replaced. So, in one day of posts we have 4 Rennlisters who have replaced the hose - seems pretty common to me.

I'm replacing all 3 on mine plus the reservior (twice). However I didn't ever see any fluid leaking anywhere. How can I find this to verify the exact leak?
Can the system fail without any fluid leaving the system? i.e. just not hold pressure?

Replaced my hose also. I had the "pedal to floor" symptom. Nothing was leaking, and the only thing I could see that seemed not right was the hose had a bunch of blisters on it that were soft when squeezed. Since I had to replace the hose, I replaced the slave as well (since I figured it had never been replaced and was fairly simple to do so) and the problem went away. So I'm not sure if the problem was the slave or the hose, but either way the hose was definitely ready to fail.

those are the easy ones with the universal swivel adapter and a small rachet, the pain was the fluid line that requires a 12mm wrench and 30 min of a series of 3,000 .5cm movements to unscrew it. There has to be a tool for those things...
