Default Fun discovery while browsing through P/O's records!

When I bought the car, the p/o mentioned that the tranny was totally replaced by Porsche early on in the car's life. I finally found the receipt for that job in the pile of paper that came with the car. Turns out, the tranny was replaced at 54k miles! So, my tranny only has 50k miles on it!!

Also, on the same receipt - brand new A/C condensor, also replaced under warranty at 54k!

A pleasant discovery! Doesn't say much about Porsche quality - the first owner had to have the tranny, and a big chunk of the A/C replaced after having a bunch of trouble. At least Porsche covered HALF the parts and labor (which totaled over $3,000 in '94)!

Did you ever consider that maybe your car was severely abused and that’s why it needed a new tranny?

The first owner was an older guy that took great care of the car. I doubt Porsche would have paid for a repair if they thought the car was abused.

That said, you bring up a great point. Who knows how a 16 year old used car was driven 10 years back!?

What a relief. I can imagine how hard it is too sleep knowing your rack and pinion has over 100k on it.

I found that my 944 had a busted timing belt early in its life (about 50K miles) resulting in a warranty head replacement. Interesting stuff lurks in those records. . .

Yeah same here! Also, I found that my guy replaced the brakes nearly as often as he had the oil changed, and he was very good about changing the oil on time!
