Interesting boot spoiler and glass
A friend recently brought a scabby 924 as a parts car for his pre 85 944, and I noticed something odd about the tailgate glass and the tailgate spoiler.
He noticed I seemed interested in them and he gave me the complete tailgate as he didnt want it.
Anyway, now I have the assembly, I am interested in knowing what the hell it is, and if its a Porsche part and where it came from.
The tailgate glass is just like a normal tailgate glass, but without a hole for the rear wiper... Normally, this in itself would not have interested me, apart from the fact that another friend of mine has a 968 club sport, without a rear wiper, and where the normal wiper goes, this car has a plug in the hole... so I thought that if Porsche made a tailgate without a hole for the wiper, why didnt they fit them to the 968CS???? So, did Porsche make a glass without a hole, and if so, what was it fitted to?
Then there is the spoiler, its the same as a rubber 944 one, not smaller like a 924 one (S or turbo) but exactly the same as a 944 one, except for one thing, it does not have the word "PORSCHE" embossed into it like a 944 one. So has anyone ever seen a spoiler like this? and if so, where did it come from and what would it have been fitted to??
A 924 guy in the local club has said he has never seen one like this, but thought it may have been from a 924Carrera GT, which because it was a short run car, and because the 944 wasnt out at that point, it was a low volume item and didnt have "Porsche" embossed into it... He also said the CarreraGT/GTS didnt have a rear wiper in race trim, so it may be a GT/GTS glass... Any truth to this???
Anyway, any ideas before I throw it away?

it says:
"...a 924 carrera GT rear hatch glass, with NO rear wiper hole (rare), which is again lighter than a 944 glass, as it is thinner glass..."
So it might be worth weighing it

Just a wild uneductated guess. Maybe they are both aftermarket O.E. style replacement pieces from an accident? You know how insurance companies shop around for the cheapest replacement parts, maybe that's how that car ended up with a spoiler that doesn't have the Porsche script(part wasn't licensed, hence no script).
Like I said, just a wild guess.

I seriously doubt that any company would commit the resources to making an aftermarket spoiler. I think it's a CGT hatch. Keep it or find someone on here that's making a CGT - just don't ebay it!

Now really confused..
HotBlack, I know that Porsche specialist in Bournemouth with the CGT glass, he helped me find my bridge spoiler, I think the one he has is a different glass, he showed me it when I was last there (I cant remember if it is Derek Bells CGT glass, or if he mentioned Derrek Bell has a CGT, or if he was saying about Derrek Bell was a customer as I was paying more attention to the C-GTS he had on his lift at the time), but you can see right away that its lighter than a 944 glass, when you hold it you cant just feel the lighter weight, you can also feel its thinner between a thumb and finger.. My one seems to be maybe a bit thinner than a 944 glass, but I am told that 924 ones are thinner anyway, but not as thin as the glass that Jon Mitchell has in his workshop.
Interesting that so many 944's seemed from the sounds of it to get glass without a hole, yet when they made the 968 CS's they fitted a glass with a hole and an ugly plug in the hole.

I had a 924 that I bought from a guy who said he had bought the spoiler in the aftermarket. It was an exact replica of a 944 spoiler with no "PORSCHE" cast into the back of it. Same texture, and it felt like the same durometer of rubber. I sold it a while back to a friend of nineagles on here. It, too, was wiper delete.

FWIW, my non-hole hatch glass has the factory rear defroster, compatibility with third brake light housing, and is made by Sekurit along with the rest of the factory glass and carries the marking "DOT 27M 25100AS2". It is safe to assume that this piece is OEM late model Porsche. Hope this info helps.
