Question What do you use to pinch off coolant hoses?

Vise grips?

I saw these nifty little "hose clips" in the Factory Shop Manual Turbo supplement. They have a **** to tighten the clip on the hose. No idea where to find them, though.

What do you use to pinch off hoses temporarily?

Vice grips with a rag between the jaws and the hose.

Snapon makes some bada$$ plier clamps for doing just that. I am sure craftsman and other tool makers probably make them also.

Anything used to "pinch" the hose can/will cause damage to the hose. Just get a bucket and let it drip.

Didn't raise the car to change out the turbo auxiliary pump. I put some cardboard from the new turbo pump box around the hose when using these clips and no harm done.

If the Factory Shop Manuals say to use hose pinchers, that's good enough for me. Worked great. YMMV

BTW, what do you do to change out the fuel filter? Put a bucket underneath and drain out the fuel tank?

Luis, coolant hoses are made differently that fuel hoses. When you crimp a coolant hose is has a tendancy to break the threads within the hose, this leads to the hose "bubbling" in some sections. Keep in mind that the manuals were written in the late 70s up to the mid 80s, hoses are not made the same way they used to be.

As to the fuel filter, I use hose crimpers with a soft cover usually.
