Question Brake Caliper Bolts? Lock tite or not?

Doing some brake work on the 83 944. When I bolt the calipers back on, should I use any lock tite or anything else on the two main bolts that secure the calipers?

Just re-did my front brakes and did not use any loc-tite on the bolts. I did torque them down to the specified ft/lbs. The figure should be in your shop manual, if you don't have one, let me know and I will look up the specs for you.

I think it's about 63 ft-lbs -- at least that's the number stuck in head (you may want to double check). I just did mine this week, too.... Did not use loctite, either.

I assume you mean the mounting frame bolts that attach the caliper to the steering knuckle. I would use blue locktite on those bolts. The extra effort that will be require to remove the bolts is much less of a problem than having a bolt back out.

No loctite. In fact, I recommend anti-seize.

63 ft-lbs sounds right.

Yep, anti-sieze here as well. They're never really subjected to torsional forces, so I don't think they'll back out if they're torqued properly.

No LockTite, just clean them up and torque to spec. I wouldn't recommend antisieze because of the heat cycling can allow them to incrementally back out. Haven't seen it personally, but have heard of it. That's what anti seize is for after all. Go back like the factory spec.

I had one back out on me because i didnt lock tite them, so now i make sure i do. When the caliper came loose, it did a number on the rotor.

Ditto. In that case there's so much heating you're more likely to have the bolts sieze up than come loose.

No loctite anywhere in there. They will be impossible to remove the next time.
