The tire is stored away from UV and ozone, they generally seem OK after 18 years. I would not suggest drivng 300 miles on one, but rather using it to get to a safe place where the flat can be repaired or the tire(s) replaced. If waiting around for a flatbed is your thing, that's OK too I suppose. I prefer to control my own destiny when I can.

You'll have to explain to me why the spare on the 944 would affect the LSD. If you have ever inflated the spare, it is the same offset and diameter as the OEM road tire and wheel. If it were smaller in diameter, I would understand the concern (like my Miata which has RWD and LSD and the weenie spare), but if the regular wheel and spare are the same size when inflated, is there an LSD damge issue? Is there a warning listed in the owner's manual re: this? Thanks.

BTW Chris---- Maybe next weekend we can set up some time to hit some other hole-in-the-wall places. All SOW and those who care to venture out with us are welcome!

It should be roughly the same size but probably not exactly. If you look up a dozen 245/45-16's and 225/50-16's you will probably see a dozen different roll-outs. I would not want to run an LSD with much difference in tire diameter L/R for very long. And that's assuming the car has stock size tires on it.

The trouble for the LSD migt also be because of the difference in the weight from one side to another.

Unfortunately, in my situation it was the wheel that was bad, not the tire, so I was really stuck. And I was in the boonies too. In a Snowstorm. Needless to say I was pretty unhapy with the whole situation.
