Default Automatic transmission won't shift from 1'st

It's not a 944 but I thought since some 944's came with automatic transmission and the 944 crowd is known to be most helpfull I thought I would ask....It's my girlfriends Oldsmobile Aurora....it goes in reverse and everything but it's won't shift out of first.....could it be a solenoid? electronics??
Thank you Rennlist

Check the tranny fluid. Replace it if you cant remember when it was done last.

You should check the fluid level with the car warm, aand in drive. (This takes 2 people...please remember to apply the brakes!)

The quickee lube joints cargs about 130 bucks for a flush and fill.

I don't think it's the fluid, could it be electronics?

stupid thing to check: if it has a kickdown button under the gas pedal, to drop it down a gear when you floor it, make sure the button isn't stuck down. i know, it sounds retarded, but a friend of mine had it actually happen in an old mercedes. i don't know if many other cars use the button under the pedal setup, but take a look.
