Calculating and negotiating diminished value
Last night my car was hit in a parking lot. The passenger side rear quarter panel and a bit more will have to be repaired and painted. The other driver has admitted liability, has a mainstream insurance co, and the car is going to a good shop. My question concerns the issue of diminished value.
The car has all-original paint with a few rock chips and some lower side panels that need a re-paint. How do I approach the adjuster to discuss diminished value? The insurance agent who called me did not put up a fight over the concept, leaving to the adjuster the exact amount.
Any ideas on how to do this? What is reasonable? How to calculate - as a percentage of the car's value?
The guy is going to call in the morning.

good luck getting a value for that Ralph. I recently read an article in Sports Car Market that discussed the issue of diminishing value.
you wont get a concrete formula, but if you can get ads for cars like yours that were hit, and show that you paid a premium for your car because it wasnt hit, your $ amount is the premium you paid.
Im selling my Z28 and buyers are either playing with me, or dont get the concept of a premium for cherry. you paid a premium for cherry that the next purchaser will not pay.
