cold weather symptom? belt squeal

Jon is right about the alternator/AC belt being set at 85 pounds of tension. Krikit tool works pretty well in measuring the tension. 85 pounds is a lot tighter than you would first think so is nice to measure with the Krikit along with pushing and twisting the belt. You would swear you were going to wear out the alternator bearings with how tight the belt needs to be to take the full load of driving the alt and AC.

I went with the 5 mm rule. Works well. Fired up with no squeals, and its like 20 deg F here today. Car ran great during test drive, had the top off, heater cranked, clear skies and an empty road.

I guess the true test will be the "parking garage" when I leave work on Monday.

Yes I get some belt squeal only when cold and the tensions seem fine, checked 3 times! I have the broadfoot underdrive pulleys so I thought that may have been the case. It goes away quickly so not really too worried about it!
