Default Front suspension

I have had a knocking noise in my front end when I turn a corner. It sounds like the noise that you get when a front sway bar bushing is worn out. But I recently replaced all front suspension parts. Yesterday I was under the hood and I decided to see if the upper strut nuts were tight. I put a socket on the center nut, on the top middle of the strut, and it turned easily. I tried to tighten it, but it seemed to turn on the threaded shaft. Haynes manual isn't helpful. Is it supposed to turn easily. If not, how do I tighten it?

It turns because it is connected to the shock absorbers shaft which itself spins freely by design. Tightening it can be tricky, as you cant damage the shaft in any way. Im sure someone has a tip, if that is the problem.

Impact wrench (to spin it fast enough) or a deep-dish open end wrench are the only ways to keep the shock from spinning from what I've read

In the top of the Boge struts isn't there normally an alan key hole ? I'm sure there was on mine befor I changed them for Konis. To tighten use a deep dish open or closed ended spanner/wrench and use the correct sized alan key to stop the strut turning.
