White smoke + rough idle = ???

Very true, after sitting for 3 months my car had quite a bit of water dripping out of the exhaust. The spark plug trick is also an excellent indicator, however if you arent losing coolant your headgasket is prolly just fine.

Well after reading this input I retract earlier comments about Broadfoot. Seems it is possible that I jumped the gun on assuming a head gasket....which it still may be. Albert - if you read this I hope you didn't take offense, I'm sure you understand my position, scared.
Keep in mind that I do live in Canada (= fairly cold at times) and that the car is stored 6 months of the year because salt is used for snow clearing in my hometown. So a bad injector might be the problem, I had to replace one of the origonals when I first installed the engine to get it to fire on all 4 to begin with.
I am currently away from my car for 4 months because I had to leave for work, and driving down in the snow was not an option. But thanks to all of the input I think I should be able to figure it out when I get home....I miss her. When I do find the root of the problem I will be sure to post my results, sorry to those of you who were following this thread for a quick progress report from my end.
Cheers,
Chad

yikes, I have the same symptoms... Im already pulling the belts off and valve cover off, so what the hell, may as well pull the head off Maybe we could have a little GTG where all of us rookie mechanics take out engines apart and try to get them back together

I'm not sure if my car is overheating. Since day one it's always been half
way up the temp meter, unless I'm stuck in traffic then it goes way up till
the fan kicks in and then drops way low and builds back up again. I
thought that was normal for this car.
And I've not had to touch my coolant since I got the car a year ago. I was
going to flush and do all the winter prep, but I decided to drive the SAAB
all winter. Unfortunatly due to some idiot hitting me head on, the SAAB is
dead and I'm forced to drive the 924S all winter.
Lets hope this is just moisture and not bigger issues.
