Default Question about required mech. inspect. BC/Lower Mainland

Hey all, thinking about finally getting my car on the road again after 9 months now in BC.

Apparently I need an out of province mech. inspection before I can get the car licenced/insured/plated etc.

Any suggestions on where to go to get this done, least costly, and aren't going to pick it apart looking to make money....

Thanks!

Kevin

Hey buddy!

Who told you that you need an "out of province" inspection? All you need is a provincial inspection which can be done at Canadian Tire (avoid!!!) or MCL or Weissach. I recommend Weissach because although they charge $160, they won't make you fix stuff that isn't broken.

I don't know if SCAN (in north van) or TARGA PERFORMANCE (also in north van), do provincial inspections, but if they did, I would trust them to do the inspection as well. Good guys!!!

Do a google for their phone numbers.

an "out of province" inspection sounds like you have to do it outside BC - which doesn't make any sense, obviously!

yeah the avatar is from that Chase HQ game I was talking about the other day.

No it means an inspection for vehicles coming to BC from "out of province"

Hey Kevin, long time no see!
I take my car to SCAN in North Van, I know they do inspections for vehicles, I think they charge about $120, somewhere around there. Talk to James at SCAN, he's a great guy! 604-980-4542.
They are always working on 944 series cars, and they get plenty of 968s.
There is also a guy who hangs around there named Bob, I forget his last name, I think he's romanian...but he imports tuned cars from Japan, and they do inspections on them there.
Hope to see you on the road, good luck!

Oh btw, AVOID Targa Performance...I took my 83 car there when I had it, and I had some bad experiences...they are the oldest Porsche mechanic in BC (30 years or something) but the owner really only likes working on 911's...it always seemed like he looked down his nose at me whenever I walked in the door because I was a young guy with an early 944 that had problems...also, they DESTROYED my drivers seat when they replaced the heater core hoses under the dash.....

No probs...actually Bob is just an enthusiast, he goes to car auctions in Japan then brings them here and sells them; it's kinda cool, all the cars from Japan are super low mileage, because there's nowhere to drive in Japan! He had a pristine red S2 on the lot for a while, 25k kms! Lowest I've ever seen in flesh. Though he's not actually a mechanic, you need a licensed mechanic to do a government approved inspection. SCAN does that. And I know that they do them all the time, and it should be cheaper than Weissach. Call James on Monday, or Andy, the owner, and they'll set you up

I second going to SCAN! IIRC they do the inspections you need.

Hi, I don't mean to hijack your thread. I just have a question about buying 944s and moving to Vancouver. My original plan was to buy a 951 in the spring(I live in Ontario), then fly over to Van around September and get an apartment, then fly back to ON before driving across the country in the 951 hauling the bare neccessities.

My question is, would it be wiser to move first then try to find a 951 in Vancouver?

I would take it to Scan or Weissach.

Bob Voychuck (spelling?) is importing cars from Japan and has a small dealership in New west called Splendid Automobiles.

Link to his cars,
http://www.buysell.com/inventory.asp?linkid=BC5166002

"all the cars from Japan are super low mileage, because there's nowhere to drive in Japan!"

Well that and it is easier to roll back a car that is from another country. Bob has nice cars but some of the other cars I have seen imported from Japan are pure garbage.
