Just picked up a 1986 944 NA and need to get a new battery for it. I've had good luck with Optima batteries in other vehicles and am wondering if there is an Optima battery for the 944? If not, whats the best battery for a 944.

I would just go into the nearest AutoZone and say hey I need a battery a 944 and take what they give you. Mine fit perfect, for $60.

I think the Optima needs to be mounted horizontally to clear the hood. This means special brackets and mods to your cables. I always buy my batteries at Costco and save a bundle over Sears, Kragen, Autozone, etc.

I bought a 8-year battery at Kragen for 65 bucks a while back. Wont be worrying about it for a while...
