Notice the tapmeasure is some distance from the hub.

My solution is to use a square like carpenters square to close the distance.

Imagine and Perfectly square "L"bracket. The bottom part ot the L goes on the hub and closes the gap to the tape measure. Just line it up to the top of hub area.

I piece of card board with two square edges also works.
Yes, but with the later cars that distance is even greater. That looks like a couple of inches apart. Mine were more like 5-6 inches. I only thought of using a square after I had taken the initial measurements and at that point, I figured I might as well eyeball the final measurements too.

OK that makes sense.

You way seems to be alot simpler then trying to do all of this in the car.

I know that you have done this a couple of time but how much time would you say this project takes?

Well time depends on one big thing.

Are you replacing the rubber bushings on the spring plate or not?

If so add a couple days as you need to hack, heat or soak them in gas to remove them.

If not I can do it in 1 day, but you will want to plan for a weekend just incase the unexpeted happens. Like you strip a CV bolt or simply can' get the damn thing to line up to fit inthe holes on body. Yep... I strugged for 3hrs getting it to fit right. Second time it took 5 min cause I got it "just right".

It is not hard job, but can be long. The only thing my procedure does is to prevent you from pull t-bars twice because you did not index them properly. With job like this putting the car back on the ground only have one side 1" higher than the other is a real b*tch and why most folks tend to stay way. With the procedure it just be comes a long job, but it is actually easier than a clutch job.
