3k rpm could be balance belts

Tires, even if they look good, could be severly out of balance

Alignment could be quite bad

My money is on the balance shaft belt. You can really feel it thru the shifter, if one didn't know better they would think it was a trans issue.

Transmission? you mean the gearbox in the back? Sorry for the stupid question, UK you see

I had a shuddering gearbox that knocked around sharp corners, start up on a bank and when reversing. The machanic located it to a totally shot gearbox mount. It was like a spong, the rubber totally disintigrated and was swinging aound. Since i changed it the car is really smooth and vibration free. Have your machanic check it to see if it moves around.
