Lightbulb DME adjustments on stock '84 944 ever performed?

I was at an interesting site recently, and looking through the articles it had, I came across one that said there is a small hole in the car's DME with access to a dial that can make different adjustments to ignition timing and fuel mixture. Now compared to an aftermarket chip, this stuff seems relatively simple and harmless. Here's a link to the site:
http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq12.html

The concerned DME adjustments are the last topic on the bottom of the page.

Has anyone done this? If you have, what is the best setting that you've dialed in?

What you are talking about is called the Fuel Quality Switch, or FQS. For US cars the best setting is the stock setting, which (if memory serves) is fully counter clockwise.

The only reason one would need to change this setting would be if the local fuel was of a lesser quality than what is currently available in the US.

Also the FQS settings on the 944FAQ site is for a 911, not a 944! One of the adjustments actually does the opposite of what's listed; don't do it, it'll blow your motor! For the correct settings, check out my 951 RacerX website.
