Default poss 944 purchase-your help needed..

have a 928, past 944 turbo and 911. now im looking for a little track toy. my 928 is in too nice condition. i know im kinda moving backwards with the list of cars ive had but i bought a house and had to rid of the most expensive ones b/c i needed the money. in any case - im looking at a 1987 944 n/a with 180,000 miles. everything has been pretty much done...heads been off, new clutch, new rad, new a/c, timing belt water pump, koni's, new rubber, new 930 seats..etc..the car mechanically sounds great-- cosmetics arent as great - tears in the dash, alot of dings but no major accidents. should i be afraid of the car b/c of the mileage?. how good of a autocross and de car will this make ? how much do you think it is worth ?
thanks
your opinions will be appreciated!

N/A's will do 300K plus.

I'd guess 5 grand +/- $1,000, depending upon location.

It will make an awesome autocross car. Does it have an lsd? As for DE, I have a turbo. I don't think it is powerful enough to be honest. I am not sure what driving an NA would be like, but on a track with any kind of long straights you will be miffed that you didn't get a turbo. But.. you can always go spec 944 racing for pretty cheap. I am actually thinking of this. I would say if you autocross a lot get an NA. If you want a best bang for the buck DE car, get a turbo.

N/A is best for autocross. No turbo lag, and you are still in B stock with Boxsters and early 911's. IIRC, been a while since I autocrossed, I'm trying to fight that bug as I wish to stay married.

Around here, an un-modified 87 944 8V would be in E-stock.

my 951 was not a very good autocrosser because of the constant shifting and inability to stay in the power band (probably because i'm not a very good driver )

your car ought to be a good autocrosser

by the way, i wonder how many people know what v-tach means?

are you joking? 5 thousand for a very high mileage NA in less then perfect condition would be outragously expensive. unless the car is in excellent shape don't spend more then 4. in fact with that many miles it should be more like 3 or less. if someone is asking more then that, keep looking (unless the condition justifies the cost... and very very few 944's will get you 300k miles.)

if your looking for a track car i put mine up on ebay just about 2 hours ago.

check it out...

If I had a few extra $$ I would split a track car with you. Im reluctant to run the gray S2, but probably will anyway.

There is a guy near us with a 84 LSD with 3?K miles, brown. think its getting ready for a clutch, one owner. I can find his # if you want. think he wanted 6 but it has the LSD, sport seats, konis & cookie cutters (yes cookies with those options)

i reviewed the receipts from day one. it is legit, and it has the LSD code on the sticker.

That statement demanded an ending...sorry.

lol, BigRed .... no.... actually I spent 6 months working at a Trauma center. I saw everything I needed to see that told me I didn't want to be a Medical Doctor. So, I dropped out of school and did miscellaneous things, but now I am back, pursuing my PhD in clinical Psychology. I still have 7 years of school left
