944 conversion into a cabriolet???`
#31
I've never seen a good looking DIY 944 cab myself. For some reason they all had the boot all wrong, too high or something.
IMHO if you want a convertible 944, get an original 944 S2 cab (or a turbo if you can find one ) unless you're really, *really* good at body work. It would truly suck to chop the roof off of ones car and then not manage to finish the job properly.

Anyone know if the S2 torque tube is identical to the 951. Thinking of just doing the motor/exhaust instead of the whole drivetrain. Can I just run the 951 instrument cluster to the DME interface harness in the S2, or do I just go stealth with the stock S2 cluster? The recipient car's interior is kind of trashed, so I am not 100% on the deal. Any help appreciated and sorry for the thread hijack.

it would be a waste of money.. to do it right would cost more than just out right buying an s2 cab. and if you dont do it right, it will be a death trap.. can you say structural integrety? but yes.. anything can be done if you wave enough money at the right people to do it.
s2 cab to turbo conversion... why do i have the feeling that after andy sees this he will go for it..

With the amount of money that would cost I'd just assume have a real S2 cab. Maybe in a year or so I'll sell the 951 and get myself one once I have the Callaway done (will I really need two turbo cars?) Either that or a 968 cab. . .

Sidenote, turbo motors will drop right in and mate right up to the S2 torque tube per Parts Heaven; Muhahahaha. The project begins. Am thinking the final drive of the S2 transaxle will get the 951 turbo into revs and spooling a little sooner. Who needs top end in the U.S.A. anyway.
