Best way to convert is to buy an S2 cabrio and replace the engine with a 951 plant. Search for posts by Maciek (Kepka). He's in the process of doing this himself -86 951 engine in a 90 S2 cab chassis-

How about some pics, Maciek?

Why not just add the 951 turbo parts to the s2 engine (granted you might need to swap the pistons for lower c/r) in order to gain a 3.0L turbo?

I guess because the chassis convo is complicated enough so most people don't get involved in engine work at the same time. Not sure whether an S2 engine will fit all the 951 bits. Great idea, though.

this thread rates up there with,
"How can I turbo my N/A"
and "how many subs can I fit into the boot"

Porsche did it once and properly, do yourself and other roadusers a favour, get the real deal, or buy a hacksaw and a plot in boot hill !

I'm suprised nobody has looked into the turbo conversion for the 3.0L S2 cab here in the U.S. since no 951 cabs are available. I may have to look into that some more. I've pretty much decided that my next P-car purchase will be an S2 cab or a 968 cab. I wasn't planning on it for at least a year or two (I have enough expensive mods and work to do on my two money pits as it is!) but I could at least look into it. . .

it can be done, porsche-o-phile,
its only the same scenario as turboing an NA coupe.

anything can but done, but what is the end result, what do you want to spend and how safe do you want to drive ?

May be taking on a similar project via the factory transplant route. Going to look at a 91 S2 Cab in about an hour to see if an engine/drivetrain swap from the Turbo may be the path of least resistance. Economically, it is crazy; but for the 944 obsessed, perhaps nirvana.

Powerhaus has done 3.0 S2 to turbo conversions for years... I'm sure it takes one HELL of a pretty penny to make happen though.

A lister here (very infrequent poster) has converted at least 2 that I know of. That is how I met him, someone said, so and so at such and such can do this. I called, we talked and I went to meet him at his shop.

It is not as uncommon as people think.

If you really want a 944 convertible, just get an RX7 convertible. Dimensions are the same, HP is the same as a 944, and the car was considered the most rigid convert out there when it came out in 1988.

Plus you get the rotary. Nothing sweeter than the sound and feel of a rotary winding up at 7500 rpm.

Do I miss my RX7 convertible?

Sell you one REALLY cheap.

Chassis is a stiff as a wet noodle with the top down, suffers from typical RX7 problem, no compression, rear rotor!

Don't do it..... There are a few great low mile examples of the real deal out there. The S2 cab is awesome, a great ride and chipped with a few small mods really moves. I've got 17" cups on mine with Sport Conti II's and had a C5 in front of me yesterday getting on the on-ramp. I'm surprised his tail badge isn't imprinted on the bra 'cus I was up in his @ss the whole way through the turn and could have passed him if I had more lane. He was really trying too....!!

BTW, I spoke with Dave at Powerhaus (I live 3 miles from them) and he said $25K for the S2 to turbo conversion.... Anderson said they would do it for $12K. Either way it's on hold for me.

Both of the above prices are high. 25K is highway robbery. WTF are they doing for 25K a ground up resto?
