Default 968 taillight question!

I'm wanting to paint the 944's turn signals and taillights red.
BUT...How do you make the light still be yellow for turn and white for reverse?

I'm not sure, but here's my speculation:

Say you want a red-looking reverse light, but you want it to light up white. The lens has to have fine red and white stripes (like on new jettas i think). The red stripes are opaque (light can't go through) and the white stripes are just clear. This makes it so the red stripes dominate the look when the light is off, but when the light is on, it shines through the white stripes only, so it looks all bright white. Again this is just how I imagine it to work, I may be wrong.

They have this really trick lense inside. Red is red, yellow is yellow, white is white, all with a veneer of red on the outside. All use clear bulbs. Really quite clever.

I admit, I was really puzzled until I pulled one of the lenses off to replace a bulb. Not sure I have seen any other cars that use this technique.

Damn rounded rear end of the 968! If only those taillights fit on a 944...

If you spray the 944 lights with the Testors Candy Apple red translucent tail light paint, your turn signals will be red and reverse will be pinkish-white when in use.

I don't know of any states that have laws pertaining to red verses orange turn signal indicators. A lot of modern cars have red turn signals in the rear (GM products come to mind).

The reverse lights are another matter. You're going to have to decide for yourself in regards to asthetics verses functionality verses legal requirements.

Good luck!
