Default O-ringed 951 cylinder head

I'm looking at purchasing a used cylinder head for my 1987 951.

I've found one but I havn't seen it yet. The owner told me that it has been O-ringed. Can I use an O-ringed cylinder head on a stock 951 block. Do I have to make any modifications to the block? Can I use a stock head gasket?

Regards,
Jim

You'll have to see where the o-ring is and what specific type it is, but it should be usable with both stock HG and stock block.

Thanks Sam,

What different types of O-rings are there? What should the O-ring line up with on the headgasket?

The O-ringed cylinder head was previously installed on a 2.9liter, steel sleeved block. Do I have to replace the stainless steel O-ring wire when I install it on my block or can it be re-used (assuming that's the type of O-ring it has)? If it has to be replaced, where can I get this O-ring wire?

Does anyone have any photos of an O-ringed 951 cylinder head?

Regards,
Jim

How does this process work, anyway? I've been told it's something I should consider for the Callaway, but I don't know too much about it. Will it only work on a sleeved block or what?

my understanding is that the O-ring provides a very concentrated area for the clamping force to be exerted on the gasket.

At what diameter should the O-ring groove be cut into the surface of the cylinder head, around each combustion chamber, assuming you will be using a stock headgasket?

Jim
