Default Twin Cities guys: Know any good alignment shops?

I usually take my cars to Sears Auto for four wheel alignments, but evidently the mechanic there "doesn't want to do an alignment on a Porsche" so I’m looking for a new place. If anybody else in the twin cities could recommend a nice shop that does four wheel alignments at a reasonable rate it would be appreciated. I checked with the Porsche dealer and they wanted around $190 which seems very high to me.

Thanks.

Be happy for not living here...4-wheel alignment on a 2.5 NA 85/2 here set us back close to the equivalent of 550 US$. That was just for the work...

If you can find the right Firestone, they used to do a "lifetime alignment" for $125. If it ever goes out, you can take it back and they would redo it for free. If you find the wrong Firestone, however, you will hate life, so my current advice is to skip them unless you know someone at the shop you are taking the car to. Firestone uses Hunter racks, its usually nice stuff and pretty well maintained.

There is a shop up north of the St Paul side that used to be good on 944's, I'd try to track them down. I think they were called Auto Works.

The 944 folks at the track with the local PCA chapter swear by Auto Edge in Mahtomedi for all 944 work. (www.nordstern.org)

I've been happy taking my 928 for alignments to Courtney Truck Service in Eden Prarie. Plan to take my (new) 944 there in the spring once I'm dont with a bunch of suspension work.

Are you talking Sears Imports across from Ridgedale, or like a Sears Auto Care Center (craftsman tool type of sears)? I would think Sear Imports would work on a 944. They usually have a couple porsches in their sales lot.

I think youre going to be in the $150 - $200 range at any shop you would trust doing it. I would trust both Auto Edge and Courtney with a 944 before I took it to one of the two dealers, but they wont be much cheaper.

I talked a Tires Plus into doing an alignment on my 87T for $100, but they would not give me any warranty and I had to help/show them how to do it. I would not recommend this idea to anyone.

Auto Edge always had some really nice eye candy in the shop when I was living out there. They did good work on my 84 when I brought it in for a cam tower re-seal, which was the biggest job I had them do. This was about 5 years ago, so I'm not sure if the service is the same, but I never had a problem with them.
