HARD "miss" at 5500-5700 RPM - But Not Always
I posted this subject here a while ago and George B. of Ecology 944 said he was absolutely postive it was a broken exhaust valve spring, not an electrical issue. I lived with it awhile (I don't rev it to redline all that much anyway) and recently had a head gasket/valve job done and the exhaust valve spring was not broken. Now what? I wondered if it weren't a DME problem i.e. a malfunctioning rev limiter..but even if it were, how would I fix that? Suggestions? Anyone else with this experience?
P.S. Yeah, it's freshly tuned up. Its got new plugs and Magnecor 8mm wires, distributor cap and rotor etc. Other suggestions? It runs strong otherwise and (probably unrelated) it has begun struggling a little to idle when overnight cold....clears right up in a moment. I assume an idle control valve issue or some kind of sensor, but I could be wrong. Related in anyway?

Describe the miss? It sounds like it could be the TPS. When mine was going out, it would feel like a miss once in a while at a specific RPM, then during the day the miss would happen more and more often as I hit or passed that RPM. As it got more frequent, it got harder, till it got to the point where the car almost wouldnt pass that spot in the RPM range.

Had a similar problem I never really solved; it just kinda went away after I sorted out a cooling issue. Perhaps the DME temp sensor was reading diferently from the one on the dash and didn't like what it saw and cut the spark? Now I'm just stabbing in the dark.
