The starting voltage at the coil is not the problem. Check the connections to your reference mark sensors, make sure they are plugged in to the correct sensor.

With the key on (not cranking) there should be about 6 volts at the coil IIRC. If it has been run very long with 12 volts, the coil is fried. Could someone have replaced the measured resistance wire from the ignition with a stand open wire?

So should it be 6 volts with the key in the on position or greater, and then will it drop when I am trying to start the car? and to what? Where would the resistor be located in the wiring harness?

It isn't the reference sensors because they have been checked numerous times and gapped by 2 seperate mechanics (1 being a Porsche dealership).

It should have higher voltage when cranking then drop down when the key is switched to the on position. The wires themself should be a measured resistance. These wires are normally black with one running from the #50 post on the starter solenoid and the other running from a connector near the firewall which feeds from the #15 post of the starter switch. If you have access to the Haynes manual the schematic should indicate the ohm rating of the wires (normally .4 and .6 ohms).

Okay great I will check that out and get back to you. Is it outside of the firewall in the area of those 2 plugs? the ones located above the master cylinder?

Not sure where it is located on your 944 but that is the general location of others. If you have a Haynes the schematic will give you more specifics such as color and size of connector.
