why did porsche ever use belts instead of chains in the first place? i never undertood that. is there an advantage to belts over chains? (sorry for my ignorance)

As to the belts, they suck less power than chains. But the more important thing was accounting for the expansion of the aluminum engine, not sure how much truth to this, just what I read somewhere.

The main advantage is being able to fine-tune your power-band. Many of the adjustments I want to make requires moving the intake lobes in opposite directions as the exhaust. Impossible to do with a single cam, and impossible to do if you've got twin-cams chained together.
