early vs late oil pumps
Did a search and didn't come up with an answer so here's the question. What is the difference between early and late oil pumps? According the pelican they have two different part numbers. I've heard that porsche increased the oil flow in the later cars, did they do it by increasing the volume of the oil pump? or how did they do it?

As far as I know, the actual pump that bolts into the aluminum housing is the same, the housing uses a different size seal between early and late tho. The drive sleeve should be the same as well. I've never heard of an oil pump going bad in a 944, mine has 321K on it and is fine. What are you planning?

Andy,
The oil pump on my 88 NA went out on me, caused 0 oil pressure and the pistons siezed. When digging to find the source, the pump had quite a few sticky oil deposits/gum stuck in certain places. That suggested that the car was running with a poor oil quality befor i bought the car and used a better oil.

I'm just trying to do my best to help prevent the spun rod bearing problem that the 944 is notorious for. What difference would the seal size make? I can't understand why they wouldn't just phase out the old ones instead of keeping both.
