I dunno. This is probably a dissenting opinion here, but I think it's a waste of time / effort / money. The "flag" mirrors really don't look all that bad, IMO and they seem to actually go with the lines of the car a little better than those oval ones do. Just my $0.02, but the car is what it is and unless you change a lot more than just the mirrors, I really don't see what it does for it. To really infuse a "newer" aesthetic of automotive design into the 944, you'd have to change the taillights (that'd be my first item), the interior, the front valence (I'd keep the rear), and a few other things to do it right. It's kind of like Ford tried to do (unsuccessfully) and Chrysler tried to do (unsuccessfully) with their "retro" cars (the Mustang & PT Cruiser, respectively) - infusing the "look" of a different period onto something that clearly isn't from there. It's a difficult thing to pull off and have it look right. . .

I think the "968 mirror upgrade" is VERY overrated, but whatever floats your boat. . .

I think the 968 mirrors and door handles update the car by at least 10 years giving it more of a 90s feel than the flag mirrors which have been around since the late 70s. The styling of the 944 (especially the S2 and 951) is rather timeless and a simple upgrade of the mirrors and handles adds longevity to that design. I believe that is what motivates most of us to what to make that change.

Personally, I'd never suggest anyone do this upgrade.

I think the 968 mirrors look to big on a 944. The look good on a late 928 and 968 though, something about the flow of the lines.

Two reasons to get Cup car mirrors is that they weigh less and don't vibrate at high speeds.

IIRC,

Tifo told me you can get a pair of cup mirrors from the dealer at less than $100/pair.

That's interesting - I had the same thought about the 968 mirrors. I looked at the Cups as an alternative, but I thought they looked too small, so I went ahead and used the 968 mirrors. I like the 968 units much better than the Flags, but I do wish they were just a little bit smaller. I think the aero units cut the vibration down a bit from my old Flags. Then again, it could just be that everything is tight now, so I can't really say that the Flags vibrate more than the Aeros.

Yes - except I usually call them 928GTS mirrors.

Does anyone have a pic of the cup mirrors painted? I may go that route along with 968 door handles instead...cheaper and probably even less common. (I love bein different)

Do the cup ones (or the 968 ones for that matter) retain the functionality of the remote power mirrors & heaters?

Here are two pictures of my car. Horribile quality, but that isn't the point. Top is Sept. '02 with flag mirrors, bottom is Nov. '04 with aero mirrors. Maybe its just me, but doesn't the aero mirror seem to follow the A-pillar line perfectly, then teardrop like the rest of the car?

BTW: The Cup mirrors, as light and functional as they may be, look "cheap" to me. I don't like that look at all. IMHO
