Default 87 944S Brakes Info Needed Cross Post

Can anyone confirm or deni for that matter they type of brakes that are on a 1987 944 S? This was one of the years that the S still had the NA nose but 16 valve motor. I am trying to buy one long distance and the present owner is not too well versed in the Porsche area. Any input is appreciated as the exchange manual set i am looking at things get real funky starting in 87.

Thanks

Wasn't the MO30 option available on the 944S?

I heard there was a sport option, but I think that it was just 16inch wheels and bigger sway bars. Maybe different struts and shocks.

This is just the S not the S2. I am trying to get the owner to take a picture of the wheels in hopes i can gleam the type of brakes. As i said the exchange manuals i hve so tons of options for brakes starting in 87 so difficult to say at this point. The car is about 1000 miles aways, trying to make informed decision to buy or not

Thanks for the responce

Joseph I just noticed you have a 87 S in your sig. So at this point i am assuming the "small" brakes.

As Joseph said, an '87 S will have the same brakes as the 944 NA. Is does not have turbo calipers if that is what you are asking.

The M030 option for the 944S does NOT include a brake caliper upgrade (like it does for the 944S2 and 968 MO30 optioned cars).

I have an 88 944s and it has the same brakes as an N/A. The turbo and the S2 had 4 piston calipers on them.

944V8 - yep, small brakes. don't look as cool, but they do the job.

it has the smaller brakes. Honestly I dont see the need for larger, unless you are a track racer. I have romped my na (with the stock "small" brakes) through the canyons quite heavily, and have never suffered from a lack of braking power. Honestly, if I just had a set of turbo brakes laying around, I would sell them, even below market value, because the stockers are wonderful and bigger brakes just slow you down (pun intended).
