Provided that the engine is up to snuff, not damaged, and the trans is in good working order, it's worth the $4K easy, just for those parts and the brakes. You could part it out and make that money back and a little more should you decide not to go forward with the project.

I'm betting that at least one if not two of the front rails is bent. You could probably get it back into shape and make it look pretty again, but only do so if you want to keep it for yourself (S2 cabs are great fun, would love to have one someday). It's doubtful that you would get decent money for it when you go to resell because of the past history that wil be forever attached to the car.

But we don't buy these cars for resale value, do we?

If it was in driving distance of me I would give $3000 for it. If it turns out to be too F'd to fix then you can always part it out for that.

Really? You'd have to spend 100 hours to get $3k out of the parts. I think with the salvage title it's a $5500 car fixed. $2000 as-is. You could advertise it for more but would it sell?

I'd be buying this as a weekend driver, to replace my E30 M3. It won't be nearly as much fun to autocross, but for everything else it should be fun.

Yep, mine probably looked a lot like that back in 1990. Texas issued a salvage title - the way it works is that now it's a regular title but with a note saying that something happened. Both frame rails bent slightly upward just in front of the engine but everything was repaired to like new. The only way you could tell something happened is to get under the car and look at the rails.

Who knows, maybe by the time I sell it, all that would've been so long ago that it really doesn't matter. There are enough older/classic cars and trucks out there with marked titles because of small accidents they were in later on and that doesn't seem to bother anybody.

Reminds me of an RX-7 my friend wanted to buy back in highschool. I kept trying to talk him out of the idea, he knows nothing about cars, the rotary engines require a loving owner that keeps up on work - he doesn't. Anyway - on the sticker it was listed as a 4-banger (so my friend thought this was a rare 4-cyl RX-7) I went down to the dealer, talking to the owner. With the hood open he was still insisting it was a 4-banger not some "rotary" motor I was talking about.

I just checked it again. Still at $4k, but I see the high bidder is listed as being in Australia. Why would you bid on a $4k car just to ship it halfway around the world?

Yeah, too rich for my blood. I emailed the guy, asked him if it yard drove, he said they hadn't tried to start it. Without knowing if it had other mechanical issues, I wasn't going to take the chance. I guess I'll keep looking.
