Default No Rear defrost ? with new hatch shocks

I replaced my original hatch shocks with new ones. Problem was, the original shocks have metal clips incorporated that are connection points for the rear defrost leads. The clips cannot be removed from the old shocks and re-attached to the new shocks, therfore leaving me without rear defrost and the leads just hanging there? Am I missing something here? Can the new shocks be modified, making a connection point for these rear defrost leads?

Sounds like you got the wrong shocks. The correct ones are fairly pricey, like $30+ each, because of this feature.

You could fashion some wire to connect the leads. I'm not sure if the regular shocks are conductive or are made to handle the current it they are. The defroster grid takes a lot of power. If there's some resistance or a weak connection you could melt the innards of the shock.

Ken
If you want I can trade mine. I do not use the rear defroster so I could get by with yours.

Hi,

I think you got the wrong shocks or you have the shocks installed on the wrong side. As I recall, they are labelled left and right. One has clips that deal with turning the interior lights on and off and I think the other has clips that deal with the rear defrost.

Good luck,

Phil

Neither shocks have clips, R or L. I payed like $35 for both. They are real nice and am happy with the quality. Just didn't think to look for the clips on them before I bought them on ebay!

dgz924s trading sounds good. How old are yours? I'll pay shipping for both of us! You mean in Iowa you don't use the defrost?

Ken

I think around 4 y.o not sure. Work well on both sides. I don't use it because the element is broken on the glass and it is tinted. Like to swap my hatch for one non tinted but that never developed but I really have no need for defroster or the rods. Email for more info......Dall
