Default 86 Black 951..PPI RESULTS

Only has 56000 miles, bone stock and just got of the phone with the guy. He says its in great condition, nothing wrong with it but needs a belt job. The only bad thing is its 1500 miles away from IN but i will get it shipped if its the perfect car. Only thing holding me back is he only wants 8000 for it and i asked him if something was wrong with it and he said no. Seems to cheap for a 56000 mile 951. I believe its located in Arizona, do the 944's just go for less there? He is going to email me some pics tomorrow and i will post them here, let me know what you guys think of this. Thanks.

Dont buy it! (and give me his Name and Phone number ASAP)

Just kidding, Just check out the pics and see if he has any maint records...Also get the VIN# . May be helpful to run a carfax... May have a little history he does not know about. Maybee a fellow rennlister can go check it out before you buy it.
Let us know, Good luck.

Run the carfax! Could be a rebuilt title or something. Also, get a PPI done. If it passes these two tests then you can be safe to go by the pictures IMO. Belts cost quite a bit to change on these cars, unless you do the work, so maybe that is one of the reasons for the lower cost.

Based on what I paid for my 89 S2 with 54k that is about right.

That price is not too bad, about what the marked is on a decent 86 (but less than I personally would take if I owned one in great condition).

If there are any listers in the area, I would ask them to do a "pre-PPI" if I were you and have them test-drive it. If it is a dog you will save some cash on the PPI, if it checks out OK to a fanatical 'lister, then a PPI would be in order next.

Good luck!

(too bad it's not red!)

I know tifo, but i really like black as long as the interior is black, and if i find a red car pretty soon i will end up with it instead. Also found a red one in OH with 56000 but he wont take anything less then 11700. I would most likely pay the 11700 if it was a 87+.

As soon as i get the pictures i will post them here to get you guy's input. I will search for a Porsche dealer in his area and have him take the car there for a PPI, if there is anyone that lives close i will see if they want to check it out. It just seems like it is to cheap, i got my na sold for 7 and this thing has 27000 miles less and is a turbo for 1000 more. Thats the only thing that i question. Someone said there is no such thing as a cheap porsche and its absolutely true. But heck i might be in luck. Ill keep you guys posted.
Thanks.

Antonio,
I live close to the red "86 you are referring to. As a matter of fact , i was at the dealer yesterday getting a PPI and the mechanic referred to that car('86 red,54k,white phone dials). He said the car has had trouble with oil leaks and the guy is tired of putting money in, thats why he's selling.
I could look at the car for you if you'd like.
Also, if the car in AZ sounds that good and checks out...buy a cheap plane ticket on Southwest and go look at it. The $300 is well worth it. 6 Months ago I had the same thing...but I drove 8 hours round trip...glad I did. It was not at all as it looked in photos, and the owner did not know enough to know what it needed.

Work is very demanding so i don't have the time to fly to look at a car, however if i find a car thats no more then 500 miles ill fly and drive it back, as long as it passes everything. If this black turbo is perfect and only needs belts, ill have that done at the dealer the guy gets the ppi and have it shipped. I just have to wait and see the pictures he sends me.
Interesting info on the red one with the phone dials, i guess thats of my list now.

Just did some more research on my privious post. I called the guys mechanic and he said the car has a salvage title. It had a front clip replaced. The owner only mentioned that the front bumper and hood had been repainted. You have to do research when looking at these cars.

I got 10 pics in my email but they are to large to post. If someone knows how to resize pics i can email them to you and then you can post them here. Thanks for the help. He says the only thing the car has a leak on is the power steering reservoir.

Looks like a nice car. That rear lightbar looks different from factory... it actually seems as if it's not transparent...

There's a little trick you can do to get the PS reservior to quit leaking out the bottom. Unhook the hose from the bottom of the reservior, take some big scissors or a big razor and cut a few inches off the hose and reconnect it. Viola - no leaks! worked perfect on mine.
You can avoid having to refill the reservoir by just pushing the hose up and going around it with a razor to get the same effect without spilling any fluid.
