Try www.vbdgraphics.com. Race decals, full car graphic packages. Whatever you want in vinyl, it can be produced from scratch, or reproduced to match another design as described above.

The shelf "paper comes in alot of different colors. I used white magnetic material for the numbers. I guess you could do white magnetic letters/numbers then put the colored vinyl over the magnetic material top and cut away what is not needed. I have a black car and that is why I used white. Here is a picture. If needed I can take another one.

Could you just use white vinyl, and stick it directly on to the surface of the car? without magnetic backing?

Yes, that is exactally what I did. For a couple of dollars the roll will last years. All my letters and numbers are about 8.5 inches high. Give me a moment and I'll send the link for the free fonts. Also contact me off list.

Default Go For It!

Many (any) local sign shop these days can do die cut vinyl output from .eps files (Adobe Illustrator is probably best authoring tool). I just picked an "old school" font (Caslon or Bodoni, etc) and shipped the file to the sign guy and got some cool 7's.

Listen to the man, friends. Plotter technology and large format printing is becoming very widespread, your local Kinkos could do car vinyl easily if they chose to. A good technician one of these vendors can do all the stuff that expensive car graphics houses do, as long as you can provide the files or find a friend who can do so.

In all businesses, a premium price is sometimes just based on the application of the technology, not necessarily the true cost of goods (as if Porsche people need reminded of that.) The same number or logo that a tuner grapihcs shop might sell for $30 can be outputted for $2 in materials and a smaller profit from a house not specializing in cars....or brokered for you by a graphic pro who does a lot of business with the vendor.

Does anyone have a good source for the materials? I'm looking to do some simple stripes on the race car but I want to do it with a metallic silver color. Cutting the stripes should be easy but I'm not sure where to find the vinyl in the correct color.

I made my own with a laser color printer, laminating it at Staples, and attaching it to a roll of magnetic material I got at a craft store. Total cost was around $15.00 for two magnetic numbers. (BTW: Keeping numbers on your car on the street will attract the wrong attention from those who may or may not frequent donut shops, if you know what I mean....)

Here it is: (note: the front number isn't magnetized, but the side one is)

The grey 911 with the blue numbers (Car # 376) doesn't really work because there is not enough contrast between the number and the car, and corner workers don't like that too much!

I did these for my then fiancee for autocross...

I had a local sign place cut black vinyl and then I attached it to a mag sheet material I had.

There were done to match the spirit of 944-spec number boards.

a bunch more 944 graphics are here.
