They put the six litre motor in instead of the 5.7. It lost by one point in C/D because it got 20 points in the "gotta have" category and the mustang got 25.
Guys, the Z28 (affectionately referred to as the mullet on this board) is definitely going to go. It is a finance thing. If I get my price on the S2 it gets replaced with a car for 5k less. That gives me room to wiggle/loose $$ on the Z28.
The interior of the GTO is one of the nicest I've ever been in. Soft leather recaros, tilt & telescope, blaupunct 10 speaker stereo, and the same shift linkage in my Z28 which is about as good as the linkage in my S2.

UD,
The sticker is 33,190, there is a 5500 rebate as of today, the dealer is throwing in a $500 coupon he has and is selling it to me either for tissue or $1000 under (his numbers dont match my calculations). Plus I have GM card earnings of about $900. GM sent me a letter saying they upped that to $2000 (my down payment) if I buy by the end of the month.
Thats 5500 rebate, 500 coupon, 1800 markup, and 2000 card earnings or almost 10,000 off sticker with a buyout of 18500 after three years. In NY GM doesnt lease so I have to pay sales tax of 8.75% on the residual. It would be closer to 250 a month by you with the 2000 down!!! or about 280 a month with nothing down.
Sit in a GTO and you will be hooked, I was.

That is one of the main reasons I don't trust magazines. The other being that they aren't me.

BB, i've made that same observation about magazine tests. however, a boxster S won 5th Gear's sports car competition despite its age. maybe we should restrict magazine comparison rule to our moron american auto-journalists.

Yeah, I've noticed a few exceptions here and there as well. It's times like that I fall back on the "They aren't me" statement. After all, Motor Trend chose the C6 over the 997 and Car and Driver preferred the 997 (or was it the other way around?). That said, they both can't be right...

Nice price on the GTO. I bought one in early September. I paid 27K, at the time a steal. The interior is why I bought the car. Well, the LS1 helped too.
Its a shame to sell the S2 though, its sooo nice.
You will own 1 of about 12K cars. The sales numbers show that GM is down to the last 1K '04's (or so). If you can find one, the Pulse Red color was the last 800, and has a slightly different interior color scheme.
Check out www.ls1gto.com Lots of good info there.
My only complaint about the car is the brakes. The P-car spoiled me, and I just expected more from the goat.

If the deal has to be done soon then the Z28 is the most liquid car you have unless you are willing to take offers less than the S2 is worth. The Z28 seems redundent and for those reasons it would be the one to go.

I am at about 24k because i have to pay tax on the 5500 rebate and the 2000 gm card earnings. It has to be done soon. My first choice of color was a metalic blue green, my second choice is silver, and last choice is yellow, purple and red.
The local car is a silver six speed with a black interior. there are no more blue six speeds around. so yeah I think I gotta jump on this if I want it. the car I want to sell most is the Z28 since one mullet in the house is enough. I would sell the S2 only to get a NA and have 5k in my pocket in case the Z28 doesnt move until the spring. christmas week is a lousy week to sell a car, just ask the dealer.

Thanks TomR.
Im no Pontiac fan, but at the discount you are getting it at, I cannot fault you. Money is money and you are rape and pillaging it from GMAC it sounds like.
A WRX STI or Mitsu Evo VIII stickers for around that. If I could find those cars for $300/mth on a lease, Id be dry humping it pronto. I currently pay $380/mth on the lease for my WRX. I paid the tax up front, but nothing else. I have no way of getting discounts though.
Anybody know of anyone out there currently leasing an STI or EVO 8 for around $400/mth no money down for around 39-42 months?? I had thoughts of just using the 951 as a daily, but at $400/mth Id prob. opt to re-lease one of those two cars....

I say selling the Camaro is a no brainer Tom! Big engine aside, that car is annoying to drive, and is really average.
I think you should also sell the 68 Firebird. Unless you wanna have a car museum in your house, why keep it? Sell it, and keep the S2. You wont find another one with such low miles and in a cool color combo etc. Do the $500 worth of restoration on the S2, and keep it as a cool summer car--get the GTO for an all around car, and you are done.
Buying a cheap NA...bad idea! There's no such thing, man!! A arms, clutch, A/C, brakes, motor mounts, belts...you know what you would have to spend to bring any NA up to spec. And when you are done, you dont have as good a car as the S2 you already have!
My .02!

Andy has it pegged. If you bought a cheap NA you'd be selling it within 2 weeks. Keep the S2 for a DE car, sell the rest and drive the Goat as a daily. Leave it all stock so you don't have to fight the insurance company when it gets stolen from the train station.
