This question is for anyone that participates in PCA DE events:
I'm interested in getting into DE's in my local area. I was reviewing the technical checklist that has to be done by an inspector 2 weeks before the event and one of the items says "No imitation porche wheels".
I have 17" Mille Miglia's on my 944. Does anyone know if this will be a problem for me. Do I have to get new wheels for DE. I also have my stock 15" PD's. But I'd rather use the 17" wheels with the michelin SX's on them.
I emailed the question to my local chapter, but I was wondering if anyone here knew while I wait for their answer.

I guess they want to make sure the wheels you use can handle being driven on a track, which any factory wheels have no problem doing. My guess is they might make you put the 15s on or get some larger factory wheels. That's strange though I've never heard of a rule like that in any of the local PCA chapters down here.

Really? Metro has a line stating no "imitation" Porsche wheels, good for them.
I saw a Mille Miglia come apart at the Glen a few years back, the center broke completely out, sort of Kurt Bush like.
Check out the NNJR web site for additional dates.

I second dave on that. I haven't seen anything like that in any of the PCA regions in florida. But, many regions have rules that are the result of something happening during one of the events for that particular region. They may have had a problem previously with said "imitation" wheels.

A problem with non-OEM Porsche wheels is that the lug nuts are different. Porsche OEM lug nuts have a bevelled surface that matches a 'rounded out' contact area on the wheel. Mixing the wrong lug nut with the wrong wheels results in a wheel that will crack.
This year, we saw TWO Fiske wheels crack at DE's. (NNJR events). That said, NNJR does allow non-OEM wheels at DE's, but the tech inspectors will check closely for cracks. You should do the same thing prior to all runs, and make sure you have lug nuts that match the surface of your wheel!
