Need cooling fan relay from early style 944
#17
It may be possible to repair the relay. I did this several years ago on mine and it continues to work. Once I got the outer case off, there was an obviously bad solder joint in there as I recall. Nothing to lose....

Tom.. its usually just beyond the 3/4 mark going 35.. 55.. 75.. anything really. And when im just creeping around very slow roads or parking lots or traffic it gets right up next to the red box - basically touching the left end of it. So maybe it does run at the correct temps, but then the gauge is very far off. Either way Id rather figure out which is correct on my own rather than find out the gauge was telling the truth when the car overheats. Better safe than sorry I feel.

Scott,
on the highway at say 70mph if the thermostat is open air is running through the radiator to cool the engine. the fans would not be on because the air is going through the radiator at 70mph.
Therefore, the needle at 3/4 is normal. The needle creeping past 3/4 is another story. If the relay is bad, it is bad. Just get used to the gauge at 3/4. See what other owners gauge is usually at. Bet you get a wide range.
