They were a standard option for the 944- Option M418. Looks better w/o them in my opinion.

They were an option in 84 87 88 and 89 based on window stickers I saw. they were on most cars though. I like them, the prevent the ugly tiny nicks and make the car look longer/sleeker in my opinion.

they may have been standard on turbos and S2s.

My 83 car had different side strips than my 86. They were thin black pieces.
The ones on my 86 are thicker and are paint matched. Personally I far prefer the look without, but they have saved me many times from nicks and dings.

I hate them. Can't wait to take them off mine.

Prevent dings and scratches? I'd need nerf bars.

How should I go about removing mine....just a hair dryer? Will there be glue left over on the body?

I like them, wish my 928 had them as well.

By door mouldings, we mean the raised stripes that go across the door. The stone guards which you are reffering to, however, can be removed with a heat gun and lots of gasoling, or oops, or some sort of acetone (nail polish remover works well) to scrub off the gooey glue thats lefts over Its a pain in the butt, so dedicate a few hours, but sure looks a lot better once removed/replaced.

Show-off!

I'd really like to remove mine, but I have to wait for a repaint because the passenger side door has been re-sprayed and for some reason the person that painted it just taped over the door trim, so a line will show there if it is removed.

I think that with the side trim on the cars, the eye is more drawn to them and it divides the car up into top and bottom sections. Cars without the trim look "bigger" and "deeper" to me.

Well I'll be. I have them on the 83, minus the driver side as of 6 weeks ago. Thanks for the tips.

Thumbs up

Mine are missing and judging by the little dings in the doors the car probably never had'em. Until I get mine replaced I park in two spots.

If anyone has a red set to get rid of, PM me.
