Removing Timing Belt
I picked up a used motor to replace the one that broke in my car. A friend and I have been trying to remove the timing belt by following the instructions in Clarks Garage. We've tried to release the tension by loosing the spring tensioner as recommended. The top part of the belt is still very tight while the middle of the belt has some slack, but not enough to slip it off. We tried slipping the belt off the timing belt tension roller but there is a lip in the back that is preventing it from coming off.
We were able to get the balance belt came off without any problems. TIA for any advice or suggestions.

You have to first loosen the spring tensioner adjustment nut , use a bar or other tool to hold back the spring tensioner off the belt to take the pressure off. Next, tighten back the nut that you loosened to hold it there. Once the pressure is off you should be able to remove the spring tensioner. It's not that easy so have a little patience.

Here's a photo of the tensioner
The Three yellowish arrows hold it in place. The Orage arrow points to the adjustment bolt that can be used to push the tensioner back and hold it off the belt. It's a little confusing going in there for the first time as you really have to dig through all the grease and stuff to find the bolts.
