I might be getting in on this a bit late (since you've decided to keep it), but congrats. You've made correct decision. I've only had mine for a month, but I can already tell you that sacrificing a functioning 944 is a bad idea. If you don't want to keep it up, definitely send it to another happy-to-have-it home.

I decided to keep mine also. I bought a 86 944 Auto and drove it home to take the engine out and put it into my 85.5 as the 86 has less than 60,000 miles on it. The guy who wanted to buy it complete, has not coughed up the money, yet. Car needs TLC but it runs. First offer over $1,500 drives it away. I know you all will want to see some pictures.

Haha, good choice I agree. But what I love most, is that the two guys that part cars out the most, are the ones to tell you not to part it...why would that be?? HAHA, i love it! Anyways, from past experience, I would second, third, fourth....i think we're well past that....to NOT part it....its a hassle. Good luck!

Derek,
I only part out wrecked, completely totaled cars. I am truly against parting a car as great as a 944 that someone else can buy and give it a little tlc and have a blast with it. Yes, some of the cars are worth more in parts than a whole running car, but even in that matter, I will not part it. My 84 is a perfect example. It needs paint and interior work, but it was my first 944 and my daily driver that has never let me down. I have lost count on the timing belt changes, but it keeps on putting smiles on my face. But, isn't that why we have these cars.

It's not the competition that motivated my statement. If it's fixable I won't part it either. In fact I'll be picking up a pair up NA's soon. I hope to fix at least one of them, maybe both if the frame isn't tweaked on the really bad one. Is it the way to make more money?? No. Is a way to keep a car that will never be made again on the road? Hell ya! Besides it's start to get fun to work on these. I think one of the NA's I'm getting will turn in to my 2300lbs autoX car!
Cheers,
Jason
