Skunk, I wish you were in Canada east coast west coast whatever, for the price of a NA engine at the local dismantler I would just buy the dang engine you need to work on and drive it over to you; but of course reality steps in and of course you are half a planet away.

You need to add in the right places, and remove from others...it's not so easy as to just "squeeze it tight" and expect "instant 200+bhp".. Would you have a piece of rock-hard syntethic material bouncing up and down inside your intake port..?

Mark; I knew it...I should have moved to Michigan when I could have done that last year..

By the way, what would a 944 NA engine cost at your dismantler? Just to compare with the prices up here...

I'm in Toronto Canada but Michigan is only 3 and a half hours away so that would have been doable.

One of the dismantlers had alot of them during the summer and at that time he was willing to let me have one that looked to be in good condition (clean with no leaks) for 800CA$ which I considered to be a good deal but then what do I know about engines and Porsche parts sell for a premium here in Canada. I know in the US they may be half that but the price is in US$ and they may have more miles on the engine.

800 CA$...that's really cheap compared to what i have to shell out...something closer to triple that amount if I'm to buy it at the usual price I've seen here. Right now ( just checked online ) 800 CA$ is about 4000 Nkr...and they are about 10 to 12k Nkr here. Gotta see if I can find one cheaper in Sweden or somewhere.

For comparison, on our PCA web site there are 2 post:

A complete '84 engine for 1500CA$ http://www.pcaucr.org/pcaucr/forum/post.jsp?postid=3169

and a rebuilt 951head for 800CA$ http://www.pcaucr.org/pcaucr/forum/post.jsp?postid=3125

When I have spare part I don't need, I sell complete 84 engines for half that (mostly for the pain of removing it) and rebuilt 951 heads for $250.

Yes, but I'll wager that is RON. Our pumps list (r+m)/2 by law.

Our 93 is probably the same as your 98 or better.

Nope...we have to list (R+M)/2 too. Our chioce is,depending on where you fill the tank, anything from 91,which is the lowest we can get,to the more common 95-97 and the premium is 98 [R+M)/2 octane. There's a reason euro cars have higher CR's...we have higher grade pump fuel. ...and an insane price... 1.60 US$...per liter. Not Gallon.

In Norway the octane rating specified on the pumps is RON.

Are you sure,Eivind? Shell told me it was the R+M/2 they listed.... but if it's right,I'll stand corrected. I'll better do a phone call and check that one out...

Ok... then I'm corrected. But still...I have built engines running on that gas having 14.2 :1 before...It might not be that much on the '44,but I'll see what I can run after calculating on it.
