Default Quick sunroof question

Was fixing up the sunroof today. The gears were messed up and the micro switch under the triangle was kaput. (I'ts just in fornt of the sunroof in the middle.) Real clever that one. You can't work on the sunroof lift stuff without the sunroof in place. That is unless you have someone hold the triangle down. Umm I mean up. Fixed that with a soldering iron by removing the switch and just soldering the wires.

"So where the Question" did someone say?

I looked all over the info at Clarks Garage (bless that man) but could not figure out how the mechanism knew how to stop in the "released" position. Cam off, cam on, switch checks. I was baffled. Then I thought, it doesn't stop in that position automatically, it stops because the arms jam back and the clutch spins. Is that how it works?
