Bill: The flywheel was a new one, not resurfaced. Same goes for clutch plate, pressure plate, t/o bearing etc basically everything 'while your in there' clutch job. Chattered since car first started with a new clutch till this day........

I would rule that out

BTW, the chatter is faint, not noticable for anyone who doesn't know how a 944 engine sounds like. In fact, it's not even bothering me at all. I just brought it up because of the chatter issue

what's the difference in a spec II clutch and stock spring centered clutch? i plan on installing a lightweight flywheel but stock spring clutch, hopefully won't have the driveability issues

It holds my 350rwhp no problem.
The original poster has an 89NA, no need for a clutch that will hold 350HP

The pedal effort is slightly LESS than the stock turbo clutch.
A clutch pedal is meant to be hard as a rock, toss away that girly pressure plate I use a 1500lb PP on my RX, not sure what I am going to use on the 951, it has a new cup clutch but I doubt it will last long.

Joseph - I would say the stage one is more like a stock clutch. There is a big difference in friction material, I am sure PP, and again unless it is mostly a track car you may not like the LWFW, you should try to find one to drive with it, most people do not like it.

"Then it wont let me "click" into a lower gear untill the speed/revs are low enough to do so. After slowing from speed (such as making a turn) or even just coming to a creeping movement after speed. I engage the clutch and it wont go into second untill under 18mph and 1st untill under 4mph."

This definitely sounds like the clutch is dragging (not disengaging fully). Could be the hydraulics, the slave or master may be leaking, or you may have an air-bubble that needs to be bled out. Don't blame the clutch for this, it's the hydraulics somewhere. Sure, you can do a couple of high-rev drag-race starts to wear down the clutch some, then it'll have some extra clearance and it won't drag anymore and allow you to shift easier, but that's just shortening its life.

Danno - couldt it not just as easily be that the clutch lining is 2-3 MM too thick? I have heard numerous complaints about chatter from the Spec stuff which makes me wonder about the quality control

KenC -

Here's my experience with the Spec Stg II and Fidanza LWFW:

To see if the clutch is totally disengaging, park the car on level ground, push clutch pedal in, shift to first, and hold everything there for a few secs. If the car starts to move or you feel some friction in your clutch pedal, your clutch might not be totally disengaging.

Mine chattered like nuts until more than 1000 miles was put on it. Just go out and drive it more.

To downshift, I match revs or blip the throttle 100% of the time now. A byproduct of this setup is that it forces me to be a smoother driver.

Mr. Roberts -

I think the jerkiness is due to the LWFW - mine does the same.

For all the N/A folks, I would say stay away from the Stg II and maybe even the Stg I for that matter. I think the Sachs clutches are more than enough for all N/A and most 951 cars.

Hi Guys,
Like Matt said, yes I'm one of the unhappy ones.
I just can't imagine being recommended to use
a stage II for a stock N.A. So, there we go again.
When I posted my thread about wrong recommendation,
I got F!!!!K left & right by some listers. Is'nt our money
not money, do we not have any right to claim at all ?

It's not so much that you can hear it, it's that you can feel it shake the car.

I agree, 100%

Time for Ken to start driving the sh*t out of the car.

Seriously, I feel bad for you - sucks when you think your doing the right thing and end up dispaointed in the end - lesson learned.
I've thought about a spec clutch, and a Stage 2 for that matter. Glad, I'm reading this post.

Matt, do you have any experience or comments about using a Spec 1?

Joe, I havent used a Spec clutch before. I have a lot of experience with clutches however. I will probably be using a KEP PP, 935 disk, and stock TO.
