Default !@#$!! PLZ help!

I see after the fact on Clark's manual when charging a 944 battery more to the matter try to jump start the car when using a charger with a start function. I tried the starter boost if you will on a small Sears charger. Still would not start. But what worries me is the manual said to NEVER ever use this start function or the DME will burn up.

I hope I did not but how can I tell if I did? I have no meters to use.

TIA!

I have charged many dead batteries. Once tried the quick start feature. No ill effects.

That said you probably don't want to try it again.

Let the battery charge for a few hrs and it should crank over just fine and start.

Oh M758 I thank you so much!! Bad time for me in general and not knowing is very upsetting. But your reply has helped me breathe better!

Last thing I need is my computer to fry. I did get a whiff of fuel so that relaxed me a bit figuring I would not if the computer was burnt out.

What started this is I have had a fuel leak at the filter. The car sat for 5 days and went to start and it wouldn't. That is when I discovered the leak. Fixed the line and still no start due to low battery. So this is where I am now. I will let it charge up for the day and give it a try. Thanks!

I don't know how many times I've tried to charge a battery and it wouldn't seem to draw more than 1 amp. You'll find if the battery terminals are dirty and corroded it will have trouble from the start. Now I always disconnect the terminals and clean the posts and clamps first and charge directly through the posts, initial charge usually will jump to 5-10 amps this way. It's amazing how much resistance can build up from dirty connections. I have also used the "quick jump" feature on the charger many times with no damage to the DME.

Good Luck

I've used the quick charge function on an old battery charger (from sears, I think) that my dad gave me years ago and have had no problems at all.

On my 83 I decided to change my fuel filter. I realized after prying at it that it probably hadn't been done in a LONG time. I only got it to a certain point, and I could not loosen it. I had no choice but to bring it to a Midas in nearby...I had to drive down there with fuel spraying out behind me...trust me, I wont do that again!

Dal- FWIW when I need to charge my battery it is always out of my car to avoid the voltage spikes that can occur. But I'm starting to think I'm OVERLY careful.
Realize this- bad work on Sunday for me means no car for me on Monday.

I have fried one DME as a result of jump starting, So it is possible, car will not start if your DME is bad, so that will be a good sign. Don't jump start these batteries!

Sears charger here as well. I am either out of gas, plugged FF. Still no start. Strange as when I tried to replace the line and found I couldn't at that moment, reconnected and tried again to start, nothing. So I let it sit for Saturday after replacing the line and tried again on Sunday and it started and ran all day. Next day no start which is where I at now. New relay BTW
I hope it is out of gas, gauge is on the empty line. Perhaps just not enough to re pressurize the lines to start?

Thanks for the good news on the charger!

Did you check the FP (DME)relay? You can do the "paper trick" to the relay to force the contacts closed and have an "always on" fuel pump. I always carry a modded relay just in case.
Installing a new fuel filter can be a PITA (Rusty banjo bolts) but it may be worth a shot- today's gas has a lot of sedementary junk in it.

BTW- Dal- when are you gonna make it to Hershey or 944Fest?

I've jumped any number of 944's and 968's using battery cables, quick start unit, etc... never had a problem. Don't hook the cables up backwards, and you should be fine.
