The other day I picked up a used Solo 2 detector for a buddy from a neighbor. The seller had switched to a Bel and although I'm partial to the V1, he showed me the install done to his 996 C4 and it was really clean. Nice car, too... ![EEK!](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Basically, it looked like he used a wire out of the interior light. Not sure if we can do the same in our 944s. You fellows with hardwired detectors, how did you do it? TIA

Mine actually has the wire tucked under the trim above the window, then behind the trim down the A pillar and down to the fuse box. I then tapped it into a fuse there.

i did it like ryan. tucked under the trim, then down to a switched lead somewhere under the dash. if you're really gung-ho, take it all the way to the fuse box.

I ran the power wire of my radar detector under that black pillar(rather than through the light) in the pic above, and tapped into the light power. If I was smart, I would've tapped into a swtiched, rather than a constant, so that I dont have to turn it on and off manually.
btw- That power lead also powers my GTech and Navigation System without any problems.

There are two wires behind the radio that are swtiched power wires, they can handle a fair load too. Im fairly sure they are switched, I will have to double check. The 944FAQ lists them in the stereo section IIRC.

Then there are one or two large yellow ones, and a smaller red/white one. The yellow ones are constant feeds from the battery, and the red/white is switched.

but anyways i have a dectector in my car that is wired up thru one of the empty center console buttons(sunroof, rear wiper). i like it there b/c i can turn it on/off with the button. i suppose(well was told) that its probably hooked up to the stereo power. the "beeping part" with the lights sits down in the slot below the radio.
