Default Radiator drain plug dimensions etc.

Anyone know the dimensions for the radiator drain plug? I was hoping I could pick a "universal" one up at the Pep Boys/Autozone today.

Good luck. Been down that road without success. I currently have a plug sealed in with silicon sealer because the PO tried to use a metal plug and stripped out the housing.

One more thing..

The OEM part is plastic and seems to be of low quality.
Can I just use a generic bolt of that dimension, or do I have to get the actual Porsche part?

I used a generic steel M10 bolt as a temporary replacement when I broke the plastic one. I used teflon tape to seal the threads and had no problems using it for a few months. Be VERY careful not to overtighten the metal bolt or you WILL strip the threads in the radiator. The torque spec is 43 in-lbs (3.5 ft-lbs, or just over finger tight.)

That's right. Overtighten and you will end up like me. I just know it is going to pop out someday...out in the middle of west Texas...on a deserted country road...in August.
