Hey, so I'm currious as to the legality of RED backup lights. Don't think that would truck here in Texas with our inspections, despite that grey car being from Austin.
Not saying it doesn't look cool. It DOES, but I'm of the opinion (we CAN still express those here on the 'List, can't we??? ) you try to give the fuzz as few reasons as possible to pull you over. Rather; if the fuzz can give you 2 tickets instead and some other schmuck just 1, you're getting pulled over. At any rate, it still looks cool...

Red tail lights on Gemini Gray Metallic LZ7Z.
Hey skeptical one from Houston... Austin must really be the liberal oasis that it's reputed to be! I passed inspection without a word about the all red tail lights (or the header/cat pipe, etc.). It's not a daily driver but I also run without the front license plate and have never been bothered by the law. But again, this is Austin and YMMV.

Maybe, Carl. You must have SUCH a rough time driving that SENSATIONAL car around ALL those choice roads up there. I can't figure out the law-dogs to save my life, sometimes. Houston's finest have raging hard-ons for writing tickets and stuff thanks to our new mayor's ideas on generating revenue, er... uping police presence. Since we're bagging on your car's unlawfulness , you've got a license plate frame, too. Also illegal in Texas.
So, lemmie restate my point. Despite it passing state inspections, is it worth getting the extra ticket or two if Officer ******** happens to pull you over. DPS Troopers are notorious in Texas for slamming folks on all the little ****. Extra offenses cited= extra revenue afterall.

Cyrus, at the risk of continuing this thread hijack, Texas is FAR from the over-legislated state you call home.
aside- To prove my point, I was on a visit to Sacramento, and in EVERY bar/club when went to I read the "alcohol can cause blah blah blah..." disclaimers posted ON the friggin bar. A disclaimer on the door to a topless joint warned that activities inside contained "graphic nudity and may be offensive." (Isn't that the POINT of going to a topless bar??) Even more confusing was the braille translation on the same topless bar's door.
I digress. Like Carl mentioned, we don't usually get jacked up for every little thing wrong with our cars. The license plate thing (frames and front plate) usually slides, but it's all down to the officer that pulls you over. But Caris sorta on track about Austin. Bicyclists' right are strongly defended by the fuzz, you will get jacked up for littering (don't MESS with Texas, man!), and our emissions tests stiffen up more and more. Not really retarded, as you so elluquently put, just a state with a WHOLE lotta motorists waking up a bit.
So back to the thead, that taillight mod STILL looks friggin GREAT, y'all. Sorry to take the thread hostage. You may return to your normally scheduled mutual Porsche admiration.
