My car recently started cutting off intermittently. This has happened 4 times in the last 4 days. When it happens the warning and airbag lights (which are always on for the past two years) go off and when I press the gas the car bogs down. I have to turn it off for a minute and then try to restart it. I feel like this will eventually lead to an permanent failure of some sort. Is this an alternator problem?

The voltage meter in the dash typically reads around 12 volts. When I'm having this problem the voltage meter reads at about 13.

Could be a faulty DME. I doubt a weak alternator would make warning lights turn on or off.

DME relay? Buy a new one, you need a spare anyway.

DME relay sounds cheap. Thanks for that positive suggestion. I'll stop by the dealers tomorrow.
