Brian: True. Are they still working on the Sea-to-Sky Highway for the upcoming Winter Games? Love driving up that highway... so long as I'm not behind a slow truck. Wish I could do it in my Porsche...

Chase72 - I use Graspics (Dunlop I think) on the rear and an all season something on the front. 215-60-15's

Mike: do you use the same size all around (215's) or split them up (larger rear, smaller front)? Guy at Tirerack told me to go 225 rear, 205 front with the Blizzaks... I dunno... First Porsche winter for me, so I have no reference...

I use same size all around. I suppose there might be a slight advantage with tread a little wider back there. Keep in mind that when you increase the tread width but hold the '60' and rim diameter constant, you end up with a taller sidewall (the '60' series means sidewall to tread width ratio is 60%). This could be detrimental to dry handling. But I admit my only experience with the car is 215-60-15's, except with track tires, which I've used 225-50-15. These track tires were noticeably smaller in diameter than 215-60-15, thus lowering the car a bit and providing an effectively higher rear axle ratio. Good for handling & acceleration; bad for ground clearance and top speed.
But I digress...

Chase, go with what the owner manual says for size in terms of rear wider or not.

Here is something to keep in mind about winter sizes - a lot of them have larger overall diameter and circumference per given size, probably due to blocky tread. i.e., a 205/60/15 Blizzak is probably a larger diameter than a 205/60/15 Potenza summer tire. Check the "specs" of the winter tire you are interested in, and make sure the one you want does not have a significantly larger diameter than the tire you have on the car now. I have 205/60/15 Blizzaks on my 944, and they are noticeably taller than the 215/60/15s I used to have. The sizes are a guide, but not an absolute.

Cheers,

Tony

Tony: will do. Any experience with snows from Tirerack.com? The recommended sizes they have on-line for the 944 S2 are 225rear, 205 front for the Blizzaks... Should I trust them? Or take the suggestions on the thread and go the same size all around? Or go narrower than what Tirerack.com recommends?
