I'll be picking up the car from him because I have spare garage space and a little extra fund -- even though I have no use for another project. The vehicle will remain for sale if anyone is interested. If I get super bored this winter, the car may get parted it out (maybe have a SoCal vultures get-together!)

Hey Joe, maybe you'd like to cut me a deal on that motor?

Man, someone mentions parts car and everyone goes nuts -- I haven't even taken possession of the vehicle yet. I'll keep you all posted.

Dmitry -- why do you need a motor, what are you thinking of doing?

No, I'm just joking around, I have too many projects as it is. I just had a rediculous idea of a 951 powered 79 924.

Joe, if you're serious and you need a hand parting out for a few assorted odds and ends for my 951 (and just general practice), let me know. I'd definitely come over and help you with the disassembly. I'd kind of like to check out your other cars too including the 968.

I think I still owe you for a vented header panel anyway so maybe I could work off some of it or whatever - just let me know.

FWIW I saw your other post about the 968. Have you considered taking it to Mexico for the bodywork & paint? You'll pay 20% of what you would in the U.S. with argueably better craftsmanship. They can spray paints down there that aren't allowed in the U.S. also. I've been considering looking into this for eventual repaint on the Callaway project, but I've lacked a really good reason to go down to TIJ and investigate. Maybe this would give me the excuse I need to seriously pursue it.

Lemee know. . .

Just yesterday, my neighbor also mentioned how much cheaper it is to get bodywork done in Mexico -- I really should look into it. I haven't quite given up on my 968, yet -- we'll see.

Bjorn's car I have no special interest in -- except it's such a good deal to pass up. And I got me a garaging space nearby to play in for a little while. This is where my 968 rests, and also that vented header panel for you!

Anyhow, I'm picking up the car tomorrow and will assess "restorability" over the next week. Then, I'll go one of two routes:

1) take out mods and other good parts -- and reduce vehicle to a daily beater car for my GF. Cyrus wants chips, Bjorn wants the test pipes back, I could use the dash and interior. I'm sure we can find homes for the A-pillar gauge, Zeitronix, and Guru wastegate. But I'll want to maintain drivability (so for instance, if you want the chips, I'll want the stock chips in exchange).

2) or a complete part out -- add to the list motor, tranny, etc, etc....

Either the way, I'll part stuff out on "you come and pull it, you get a great deal" basis. I don't have any interest in making a profit on this deal -- just want to find happy homes for parts, and be of help to some Rennlisters on the way.

The 951 looks like a parts car only. Both frame rails in the back are bent from the buckling and carries a salvage title. I have seen 3 running and driving 951s in good condition sell for less than 3k in the last year so I don't believe its a great deal for this part of the country for 2.5k firm. I saw the ad a while back but passed on it.

Maybe offer him $2K cash? You'd recover that easy by parting it.

You can recover the 2.5k but for all the hassle and work, its not worth it to me. It all depends on what your time and space is worth. I find cars like that at the impound every once in a while not salvaged for less than 1k.

I'd possibly be interested in the rear valance and black side skirts. Keep me posted when and if they ever make it off...
