Impressions of the FRWilk chip and a few pictures from earlier
Well installed FRWilk's PowerProm2 chip into my '87 944. The car is stock with the exception of a Weltmeister throttle cam. Installation took about 45 minutes and was fairly simple...though was nerve racking thinking of the dangers of static discharge and frying the brain of the car. The car fired right up and instantly i could tell the idle felt smoother. I took it out for a ride and honestly was not 100% impressed until today. The laggy feeling in the sub 35000rpm range was still present, and the idle 'shudder' was still present about 1 out of 3 times i came off the gas. I put about 30 miles on the new chip friday night and noticed not too much of a difference. I read somewhere that it was necesary to let the car 'adjust', so i decided to put some miles on the car to try and break it in. I decided to visit my ex-g/f at school Saturday afternoon...i put another 160 miles or so on the car and i didnt really notice any change. This afternoon however, i really noticed a big difference on my cruise through the backroads and whatnot. The idle shudder is completley gone and the flat spot in the sub 3500rpm range is completely gone. It pulls much smoother through the entire rpm range as well. Overall, i am 100% impressed with this chip. It took about 200 miles, but its completley changed the feel of the car. That 'v-tec' type feeling the n/a's have around 3500rpms is now present through out the entire powerband. I cant really say much about the top end on the car however as i dont reguarlly bring it higher than 5000rpms in driving. I can say however its a huge difference in the changes it makes and a worth while upgrade.
Here are a few pictures from earlier...found a nice spot to take some pictures while taking the backroads to the beach...

I thought the "shudder" thing only aplied to the early cars, pre-85????? As far as the miles go, our DMEs are not the type that take time to adjust or "learn," it's all or nothing from the first time you fire it up. I'm glad you're happy with your chip but I have to wonder if some of the "seat of the pants" improvements are really located a couple feet above that location.
